About the Uruguay Digital Nomad Visa
Uruguay offers the Provisional Identity Card for Digital Nomads (Hoja de Identidad Provisoria para Nómadas Digitales) for non-resident remote workers and self-employed professionals. The program lets eligible applicants live in Uruguay for 6 months initially. Renewable for 1 additional 6 months (maximum 12 months total). After 12 months of residence, can apply for permanent residency. while working remotely for clients or employers based outside the country.
Applicants typically need to demonstrate stable monthly income of at least the income required by the program, valid health insurance, and a clean criminal record. It is renewable, allowing nomads to extend their stay.

Income
No official minimum income requirement. Must sign a sworn affidavit confirming sufficient means to support yourself during stay. Practical guideline: approximately USD $1,500–$2,000/month recommended to demonstrate financial self-sufficiency.

How to Apply for the Uruguay DNV
Processing time: 5–20 working days from online submission for initial approval.
- 1Enter Uruguay as a tourist (many nationalities enter visa-free for 90 days).
- 2Once in Uruguay: create a digital government ID (ID digital) at tramites.gub.uy.
- 3Access the Digital Nomad Permit application at the same portal (in Spanish — use browser translation).
- 4Fill in form: name, passport number, country of birth, address in Uruguay.
- 5Upload digital copy of passport bio page.
- 6Download, sign, and upload the sworn affidavit of financial self-sufficiency and remote work status.
- 7Submit application.
- 8Within 24 hours: pay ~$10 fee at local payment center (Abitab, Correo Uruguayo, Redpagos, Urupago) or Uruguayan bank transfer.
- 9Wait 5–20 working days for approval email with permit confirmation.
